Summer Holiday Athletics Scheme for Young Athletes

Are you aged between 8 and 13? Can you run, jump or throw — or maybe all three? If the answer to this is yes, then you should sign up to the Greater Peterborough Athletics Network (GPAN) Summer scheme!

The scheme will run for 2 weeks: 1—5 August 2016 and 8—12 August 2016
Full Day: 09.00—16.00 Lunch (12.00 — 13.00)
Half Day: (morning session) 09.00—13.00 ⁄ (afternoon session) 12.00—16.00

Athletics fun

Activities will be structured to give all athletes the chance to try all disciplines of athletics. Fun competitions and achievement awards will be made to all athletes

GPAN will provide CRB-checked qualified coaches to lead the young athletes through all aspects of the sport in a fun, safe environment at the Embankment Athletics Arena in Peterborough – 9 am to 4pm Monday to Friday.
Advanced booking required.

£23 per Full Day
£12 per Half Day

How to Book

Athlete’s wishing to book a place on the scheme must complete the Registration form (GPAN Registration form) and either:

1) send the completed Registration form together with a cheque (payable to GPAN) to:

The aims of the Summer Scheme

◊ Raise the profile of athletics among young athletes and their parents in the community.
◊ Introduce children to athletics in a fun and exciting format.
◊ Introduce athletics to minority groups or areas where staging athletics can be a challenge.
◊ Introduce, support and develop coaches and officials by providing a new way of experiencing this sport for the first time..
◊ Encourage more young people to become involved and  to stay involved in athletics
◊ Helps children to improve athletic skills in a relaxed environment so they have confidence to improve performance

What you need to know for the GPAN Summer Scheme:

◊Hours: 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday
◊ Where: Embankment Track (Behind Regional Swimming pool)
◊ Leadership: GPAN CRB-checked and qualified male and female coaches
◊ Aims: Lots of fun for the athletes. Learning new skills and making new friends in a safe attractive environment
◊ Activities: include sprints, relays, jumps, throws (shot, discus and javelin)
◊ Informal and friendly regular competition. Those athletes registering for more than one week will see their performance improve.
◊ Please bring your own packed lunch, snacks and drinks. It is vital you bring enough to drink to last the day
◊ Bring hats and clothing appropriate to the weather!
◊ Please book early. We need to book enough coaches and leaders.

If your child likes athletics and wishes to find out how good they can be, then why not consider joining one of the GPAN clubs. All of the clubs have Junior sections where your young athlete can build on what they have learned on the Summer Athletics Scheme
